The Pharaoh
The Pharaoh was the most important person in ancient Egyptian society. They were not only the king, the ancient Egyptians also considered them to be like gods! Soldiers
At first, there was no real army in Ancient Egypt. Most people were farmers, and if the pharaoh wanted people to fight for him or her, they would call on the farmers to fight. Eventually they realised they needed an army to defend themselves. Check out the slide show below and to give you hints about Egyptian soldier's lives. Scribes
Scribes were very important people in Ancient Egypt. They were the only ones who could write! They had to go to special scribe school for four or five years to become one. Usually it was the children of scribes who would become scribes. Ancient Egyptians have a special kind of writing called hieroglyphics.
Hieroglyphics were like little pictures. They used to write on something like paper called papyrus with a reed brush and ink. See the pictures below of hieroglyphics and watch the video.

Slaves
For many years, people believed that there were loads and loads of slaves in Ancient Egypt. They thought they probably built all the great pyramids and ancient monuments we see today. Nowadays people believe that there probably weren't that many slaves! Slaves were owned by wealthy people in Ancient Egypt, they were usually people captured during war. They believe that slaves were actually treated quite well in Ancient Egypt. They also believe that it may have been free Egyptians that built the pyramids.
